LEAD Scholars Faculty Fellows take time from their busy careers at UCF to impart wisdom and leadership knowledge through our LEAD Scholars courses and practica. We are very proud to have them as part of our program.

Kelly Astro is Director of Undergraduate Research and Civic Engagement in The Burnett Honors College. Kelly earned her B.S in Elementary Education from UCF and her M.Ed from Drexel University in Philadelphia. Prior to assuming her current position, Kelly was Director of Service Learning, Leadership and the Freshmen Year Experience at Drexel University and worked in the Community Relations Department for the Philadelphia 76ers Basketball Organization. In her current position, Kelly oversees the SMART and Honors in the Major programs as well as all civic engagement programs for the College. In addition, Kelly works closely with Honors student leaders and the National Merit Scholars. Kelly serves as the faculty advisor for the Undergraduate Research Society and Help Every Little Person (HELP). This is Kelly's first semester teaching in the LEAD Scholars Program, but has previously taught Leadership and service learning courses at Drexel University. In addition, Kelly is a certified teacher and has taught both at Grand Avenue and NorthLake Park Elementary Schools in Orange County. Email Kelly at kastro@mail.ucf.edu

Dr. Jeff Butler has taught in UCF's College of Arts & Sciences since 1971. A member of the faculty of The Nicholson School of Communication, he currently teaches classes in human relations, nonverbal communication, argumentation/debate, research methods, communication apprehension, and public speaking. His off-campus activities have included serving as a circuit-civil mediation trainer, professional speaker and debater, moderator, parliamentarian, and business consultant. He has also conducted numerous communication workshops. During recent years, Dr. Butler has taught both LINC and honors courses. His research interests include communication apprehension, persuasion, and nonverbal communication. In addition, Dr. Butler has been awarded two "Teaching Incentive Excellence" awards and has been selected as UCF’s Teacher of the Year.
Christa Coffey is currently in her third year of work as an Assistant Director of Student Involvement at the University of Central Florida. In this position, her main responsibilities include registering and maintaining over 380 student organizations and advising Knights of the RoundTable (KoRT), the Student Government Senate, and Knight-Thon: Dance Marathon.  Prior to this position, Christa worked for three years in programming at Missouri State University in Springfield. She is currently working on her doctorate in Educational Leadership. She received her Master's degree in Educational Administration at Texas A&M University in 2001, and earned her Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, also from Texas A&M, in 1998. Brad Crawford has been at UCF since 1999. He serves as the Director of Baptist Collegiate Ministries (BCM), one of the largest and most active student organizations on campus. Originally from Georgia, Brad received an undergraduate degree and a masters degree (MBA) from the University of Georgia. He also holds a masters degree (M. Div.) from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. His business experience includes six years in sales and management in Moultrie, Georgia and Gainesville, Florida. He enjoys reading and traveling, and is an avid sports fan. Brad and his wife, Julie, have three children: Amy, Andrew, and Evan. He teaches our Basic Spiritual and Advanced Spiritual practica.

Dr. Germayne Graham


Dr. Germayne Graham has been with the university since 2001. Dr. Graham joined LEAD Scholars in July, 2007 and was most recently a psychologist with the Counseling Center. Email Dr. Graham at gcrow@mail.ucf.edu


 
Dr. Thomas Fisher is a Graduate and Undergraduate Instructor in Sports & Fitness and Physical Education here at UCF. While working as an EMT/paramedic in Tallahassee, he attended Florida State University and played Soccer for FSU for two years. After moving to Orlando, he graduated from UCF with a Bachelors Degree in Psychology in 1981. Dr Fisher served from 1981-1986 as a Naval Aviator and qualified as both a fixed wing & rotary wing pilot. He obtained his first Master’s Degree in 1989 from Rollins College in Counseling Psychology & Human Development. In 1993, he earned his second Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology from UCF. He was awarded his Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction in Exercise Sciences from UCF in 2003. Outside consultations include being the Clinical Director of Optimum Human Performance: a Performance Enhancement and Rehabilitation Private Practice including Physical Training Programs, Motivation and Sport Psychology, and Director of Health Sciences at the Golf Academy of the South. Dr. Fisher has been involved with the Martial Arts for over 35 years, and holds the rank of Senior Black Belt Instructor, Examiner, and Referee. He is also a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the NSCA, and a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC). Email Dr. Fisher at tfisher@mail.ucf.edu

Rick Falco has been at UCF since 1994, earning both his B.S. degree in Business Administration, Finance in 98 and his M.A. in Educational Leadership, Student Personnel Administration in 01. Before his transition to Associate Director for Operations at the Student Union in 2004, Rick worked at the Recreation and Wellness Center as the Associate Director of Finance and Operations. Along with spending time with family and friends, Rick enjoys traveling and playing golf.

Dr. Cynthia J. Hutchinson is an associate professor in the Education Studies Department in the College of Education. She has been associated with UCF since 1973. Particularly skilled in the areas of pedagogy, Dr. Hutchinson works with pre-service and in-service teachers. Her graduate study was done at Allegheny College and Florida Atlantic University in the areas of Elementary Education and Administration and Supervision. She and her husband Tom enjoy riding their motorcycle when they aren’t involved in activities involving their children Jonathan, a cartographic researcher, and Jennifer, a nursing student at FIU. Dr. Stacey Lazenby Malaret is originally from Orlando, Florida and attended The University of Southern Mississippi for her B.A. degree in Psychology. She then graduated in 1998 from The University of Central Florida with a M.A. in Student Personnel and in 2007 with her Doctorate in Educational Leadership. She has worked in the student development field since 1999.

She was most recently the Director of Student Activities and Asst. Vice President for Student Development at Saint Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, IN and currently is employed as the Associate Director for the LEAD Scholars Program at The U. of Central Florida. Lauryn Migenes joined UCF in the Fall of 1998. She is currently an instructor for the Department of Management in UCF's College of Business Administration. Her teaching portfolio includes courses in International Marketing, International Management, Integrated Marketing Communications, Consumer Behavior, Organizational Behavior, and Cornerstone Lab. Prior to joining the College of Business Administration, she was employed at Siemens, AT&T, Bell Atlantic and TMP Worldwide in New Jersey. Her educational background includes an MBA in International Marketing from the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, United Kingdom. She received her Bachelor of Science from Rowan University. Dr. Debby Mitchell is an associate professor in Physical Education in the College of Education. Her research agenda is youth obesity and her passion is getting people excited about exercise and living healthy. She is also very strong in the area of technology. She has presented at international and national conferences in the area of technology, published technology related articles, and developed technology workshops for physical education teachers.

Gary Morgan is our director. He came to us from Boston College, where he was the Associate Dean for Student Development of Graduate Student Life. He received his master's degree in College Personnel at Bowling Green State University and has pursued doctorate in Higher Education at the University of South Carolina. Kelly Doel is currently an Area Coordinator for Housing and Residence Life. Prior to coming to UCF, she worked as a Resident Coordinator at Florida Atlantic University and attended the University of Florida, where she earned a Bachelors Degree in English and a Masters Degree in Secondary English Education. Joe Ritchie is the director of UCF's Orientation Services. Mr. Ritchie previously worked at Indiana University of Pennsylvania as the Assistant Director of Advising and Testing which encompassed Orientation, Disability Support Services, and Career planning. He has a B.A. in Music Performance and a M.A. in Student Affairs in Higher Education. Mr. Ritchie has taught courses within the LEAD Scholars Program for two years, and also coordinates and teaches the SLS 1501 Strategies for Success course for incoming freshmen at UCF. His teaching style is student-centered and involves a lot of classroom discussion. He also advises Phi Mu Alpha, the social music fraternity, and provides piano accompaniment for various performers. He loves amusement parks and going to the beach in his free time.

Dr. Mark Allen Poisel is the Associate Vice President for Academic Development and Retention at the University of Central Florida. Prior to his current position, Poisel, most recently, served as Assistant Vice President for First-Year Transitions in Student Development and Enrollment Services. He was also the Director of Transfer Services at UCF and a specialist for student services at the Florida division of community colleges where he was responsible for assisting the state’s community colleges with policies and issues related to admissions, financial aid, and other student services. He currently serves on the board of directors for the Florida Center for Advising and Academic Support in addition to the standing committee on statewide policies and guidance of Florida’s Articulation Coordinating Committee. James Wilkening is the associate director of UCF's Recreation and Wellness Center. Jim begins his 13th year at UCF continually expanding his experiences and responsibilities. Currently in the role as Associate Director for the Recreation and Wellness Center, Jim is responsible for providing the students with quality programming in the areas of Fitness, Outdoor Adventure, Intramural Sports, and Sport Clubs. Additional responsibilities include outdoor playing fields and future master field plans. Mr. Wilkening is a UCF Alumni; he received his BSBA here, and his MAT from the University of Louisville, KY.

Travis Gabriel is the Area Coordinator for the Apollo Community in the Department of Housing and Residence Life. Travis was raised in Miami, Florida and attended the University of South Florida (GO Bulls) where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Criminology and Sociology with a Minor in American Sign Language. He then did a year excursion in Richmond, Kentucky where he worked at Eastern Kentucky University. Travis completed his Master’s degree in Educational Leadership with a concentration in Higher Education Administration at Florida International University. David Crafts serves as the assistant director for campuswide student leadership programs. Prior to joining the UCF community in August 2006, Dave served as the assistant director of student activities and orientation at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. At Capital he advised the Campus Activities Board, spearheaded new student programs, served as an advocate for commuter students, and advised Habitat for Humanity and PRIDE, a glbt organization. He has also worked at Bowling Green State University in Ohio as a residence hall director. Dave earned his bachelors degree in Psychology and Master of Education in Student Affairs at Grand Valley State University in West Michigan.

Kelli Hutchens serves as the Coordinator for LINK (Learning and Interacting with New Knights) and other leadership programs for students in transition. Working as a member of the leadership programs team, she also teaches classes for first year LEAD Scholars. Prior to joining the Golden Knights at UCF, Kelli obtained her M.A. in Higher Education in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy (EDPL) from the University of Maryland, College Park. At Maryland, she also served as an Academic Advisor, a Graduate Research Assistant, and a course instructor. Kelli is an ardent Buckeye fan, as she earned her B.S. in Psychology from The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio and worked full time at the Ohio State University Medical Center while working towards her undergraduate degree. Her primary research interests and passions lie in college access and retention for African Americans, Latino/as, and first-generation college students.

Edwanna Andrews, Assistant Director of Transition Leadership is a Golden Knight through and through receiving both undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Central Florida. Edwanna previously worked as an Academic Advisor for SARC where she enjoyed building a rapport with students and assisting them as they transition to the university. Establishing opportunities for students to achieve the "light bulb moment" Edwanna enjoys advising student organizations, teaching SLS 1501 and LEAD Scholar students.
