- When your application is received, our senior secretary and student assistants
process it and check for any missing elements.
- Once the application is complete, you will be contacted by post card, telephone
call, or email to set up a phone interview, where you get a chance to chat
with a LEAD Scholar one-on-one. This is meant to be a mutual interview; please
feel free to both answer our questions and ask a few of your own!
- When the phone interview is complete, your application will be held until
the next Selection Committee meeting for review. Your application will be
reviewed and scored at that time.
Most students will receive a letter informing them of the program's decision
immediately after that meeting. A few, however, will receive a letter indicating
that they are on "hold" status, and will be informed of the program's
final decision in June.
As you can see, there are several complex steps to being selected as a LEAD Scholar, and
several weeks sometimes pass between the completion of your application and
your notification of the Selection Committee's decision.
If You Are Selected:
- Once selected, you will need to commit to the program and pay a one-time
LEAD Student's Association membership fee of $125. This helps fund the many
events that the LEAD Student's Association teams provide throughout your two
years in the program.
- If you are selected early enough, you will be invited to attend a special
LEAD Scholars Orientation session in June. Attendance is not required,
but this will be your first chance to meet your fellow LEAD Scholars, and
our students generally consider it beneficial.
- To receive the program's $200 per semester stipend, it is recommended that you submit a FAFSA
form to the Financial Aid office.
- To be placed in LEAD Housing on campus, you must have a housing contract
on file with UCF Housing and Residence Life and must also have indicated your
interest in LEAD Housing on your LEAD Scholars application. Spaces are filled
on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Spaces are filled in a similar manner for the REEL Retreat; those who apply
and are admitted earlier will have the best chance of attending one of the
two 80-person REEL sessions. You will receive REEL information in a separate
mailing after you are selected OR inside your selection envelope, depending
upon the time of year in which you applied.
