Leadership. Academics. Service. LEAD Scholars are committed to excellence,
committed to making a difference in their communities, and committed to learning
to lead themselves and others with integrity and vision.
What do we do?
- We have a LOT of fun together. On any given night you might find us throwing
a formal dance, having a masquerade bash, watching a movie together, or cheering
each other on in an intramural game on campus. There are all sorts of people
in LEAD Scholars—we’ve seen LAN parties thrown in the office as
well as scrapbook sessions and trips to the theme parks. Many LEAD Scholars
say that they’ve met their best friends in LEAD. You can too!
- We also do a lot of good work together. A commitment to community service
is one of the main tenets of our program, and we are committed to helping
youth in particular. You’ll find us helping at fundraising walks for
various charities, helping handicapped kids play baseball, tutoring struggling
elementary school students, or cooking for families staying at the Ronald
McDonald house. We help with humane societies, health organizations, local
schools, and Orlando’s Promise. http://www.orlandospromise.org/ LEAD
Scholars select the service opportunities that mean that most to them personally,
and then throw themselves into making a difference there. It’s a lifechanging
experience!
- Finally, we learn and grow together. Many LEAD Scholars arrive not really
understanding how one can “study” leadership. Their first semester
in the LEAD Scholar courses really opens their eyes! By the end of the two-year
program, they find themselves more aware of leadership in their surroundings,
more conscious of their own leadership and example to others, and more familiar
with contemporary theories and methods on how to lead with excellence.
